M.J. HYLAND wins the 2007 Hawthornden Prize for Imaginative Literature

M.J. HYLAND has been awarded the 2007 Hawthornden Prize for Imaginative Literature for her second novel, Carry Me Down (2006). Carry Me Down was first shortlisted for the 2006 Man Booker Prize for Fiction and went on to be shortlisted for the 2007 Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best Book. It was also longlisted for the 2007 Orange Broadband Prize for Fiction.

Established in 1919, the Hawthornden Prize is one of the oldest literary prizes in the United Kingdom. It is given for the best work of imaginative literature, the winner of which receives a cash prize of £10,000.

M.J. Hyland lives in Manchester, where she teaches in the Centre for New Writing at Manchester University.
