John FOWLES Dies

JOHN FOWLES DIES
(1926-2005)

JOHN FOWLES, one of Britain’s most successful novelists and the author of such celebrated multilayered novels as The Collector (1963), The Magus (1965) and The French Lieutenant’s Woman (1969) (who loved leaving the endings of his most celebrated novels teasingly open-ended), has died from heart failure on Saturday, November 5, 2005, at his home in Lyme Regis, southwest England. He was 79. For lovers of serious fiction, he will be sadly missed.
